First-Run Experience
The first screen a new user sees is almost entirely empty. What you say here, and what you let them click, decides whether they make it to step two.
What you see every day is an interface with data; what a new user sees is empty. That gap is the root of every first-run problem — you almost never look at the empty screen on your own, unless you specifically try it with a fresh account.
What Goes on This Screen
Distinguish between two kinds of empty: never had any (a new user — guide them to create) and filtered out (there is data but the conditions hid it — tell them to loosen the filters and offer a one-click clear). Fobbing them off with the same empty state makes existing users think the data is gone.
Four Onboarding Patterns
Once you're done, walk through it yourself with a brand-new account. It's the only way to find these problems, and the easiest step to skip.
