Five forms of hints
Match the hint's intensity to the stakes. Use a modal for something trivial and users learn to click through without reading.
What you will run into
Five forms
Three levels: weak, medium, strong
Pick the form after you have judged the stakes. There is only one test: if the user does nothing, does something break?
Warning, hint, error
Sorted by intent, there are only three kinds — and each has a different tone and landing spot.
